March of Dimes Presents FDR Humanitarian Awards

Rep. Patricia Haddad, Castle Group and Ocean One Productions Honored

Boston, MA – The March of Dimes Massachusetts Chapter honored five individuals for their dedicated service to the organization at the 75th Anniversary Franklin D. Roosevelt Humanitarian Awards Gala on November 8 at the Renaissance Waterfront Hotel.

FDR Humanitarian Awards were presented to Representative Patricia A. Haddad, Sandy Lish and Wendy Spivak of the Castle Group and Dan Fickes and Dan Seminatore of Ocean One Productions.

A member of the House since 2000, Representative Haddad, Speaker Pro Tempore of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, was honored in the Advocacy category. She has been a strong advocate for women and children in the legislature, sponsoring and supporting bills important to the mission of the March of Dimes. She has also co-hosted a New Legislator Reception with the March of Dimes for the past two terms.

The Castle Group is a recognized regional leader in marketing communications/PR and events. Principal and Co-Founder Sandy Lish serves as the State Board Chair of the Massachusetts Chapter of the March of Dimes. Wendy Spivak leads Castle’s events division. The Castle Group has provided advice and direction for the March of Dimes for more than 10 years in a variety of public relations and management disciplines enabling the Chapter to enjoy its most successful years in history with both fundraising initiatives and program services. Lish and Spivak were honored in the Community category.

Dan Fickes and Dan Seminatore co-founded Ocean One Productions in 1989 after working together in television news on Cape Cod and in Boston. For seven years, Ocean One Productions has filmed, edited and distributed more than 25 videos with March of Dimes educational and mission content at no charge to the organization. Two Ocean One produced videos were presented at the Gala featuring Boston Bruins Assistant General Manager Don Sweeney and his family and polio survivor Robert “Ziggy” Burns. Fickes, a March of Dimes Board Member, and Seminatore were honored in the Education category.

About the March of Dimes:

In 2013, the March of Dimes celebrates its 75th Anniversary and its ongoing work to help babies get a healthy start in life.  Early research led to the Salk and Sabin polio vaccines that all babies still receive.  Other breakthroughs include new treatments for premature infants and children with birth defects.  About 4 million babies are born each year in the United States, and all have benefitted from March of Dimes lifesaving research and education.
