Mass. Gov. announces Neuroscience Consortium
June 20, 2012
BOSTON—Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and seven biopharmaceutical companies have announced the formation of the Massachusetts Neuroscience Consortium.
Patrick and company representatives from Abbott, Biogen Idec, Pfizer and others announced the formation of the consortium Wednesday at the BIO International Convention in Boston.
The Democratic governor said the consortium will fund research into an array of diseases in an attempt to bring patients and their families toward a "better future."
The consortium will be unique for its proposed short-term and results-oriented projects, common standards identified by industry sponsors and results that are shared with all participants.
Participating companies have each pledged $250,000 to the consortium, for $1.75 million in initial funding.
Consortium members will also solicit and review pre-clinical neuroscience research proposals from academic research institutions.
